For us, Bloggers, Facebook has been one of the hottest topics to read and write about. Facebook has the ability to be in the news all the time with frequent changes in the security levels, design layouts, and most recently the Timeline. Facebook, with its huge user base of over 750 Million active users (closing in on 800), is always looking to increase the number of users on its network, which is the reason Facebook always takes the initiative to implement new innovative ideas in attempts to penetrate new markets.
At the recent f8 developer conference, Facebook’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg provided an insight about the user’s engagement level using the new sharing system as compared to the older system. He promised Netflix double the level of engagement and users if they joined Facebook’s new sharing system. The latest sharing system is definitely very powerful when it comes to engagement. The main highlighting factor is the ticker box, placed at the top right side of the wall; it provides complete information about the recent activities your friends perform on Facebook.
The concept is quite brilliant as it identifies a user’s personality profile as well i.e. whether the user is a person who likes to follow others most of the time or creates his own path and makes other users follow him/her. For application developers and businesses it is a very crucial element of feature as it helps their applications or Fan pages to reach a large number of users.
Facebook, from the start has been able to redefine and re-vamp the model of social connectivity of users. We also learned this in f8 conference that Facebook might be looking to re-vamp the way TV works.
Currently if you want to watch a program on cable, you only have the option to use the Cable TV guide and wait for the specific time on which the show is to be on-air. This is something which has been around from a long time. To overcome the wait time, some of the TV companies have tried to redefine the way we use our TV but haven’t been able to change it drastically. Google TV, however, is one of the exceptions and shows a lot of potential. The search engine giant provides the search and click facility to users, something which is very familiar to the users.
Facebook, on the other hand, has a different concept. As soon as you login to your Facebook account, it loads and displays the content, which is relevant to you according to its system. There have been some noticeable debates on the system of Facebook discovering the content. Some say users should be able to filter out the information from all the newsfeeds. On the other hand, users say that it is a brilliant system as it provides the information users want to consume.
Right now every tech giant is battling out in the Mobile industry and so is Facebook. Facebook’s continuous growth and evolution suggests that there is a possibility that someone in the company might be working on a device, which might become the modern TV or an Interactive TV device of the future. If this is the case, in our opinion, television will be the best way to accelerate the growth and the largest source of attention in the world.
